Beer #24 - Simple Things Fermentations Belgian Christmas And so to our Christmas Eve beer, the cherry on the top of our HB&B advent. Simple Things Fermentations is a small Glasgow brewery doing great things. Here in South London, STF may not have the instant name recognition of, say, a Verdant or a DEYA, but the quality of the beers speak for themselves - every one's a winner. When founder Phil kindly sent us a sample of this Belgian-style Christmas ale, we knew we'd found our Christmas Eve beverage. Lightly hopped, this is packed with all those classic Belgian flavours we love...

The Beer Lover's Table: Cheeseburger Tacos and Beak Brewery Déšt Pilsner

It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s gloomy and lockdown restrictions mean we’re all stuck in our homes even more than we otherwise would be at this time of year. In other words, the conditions are perfect for making cheeseburger tacos. Ginger and cinnamon dominate the nose with biscuity malts and warming spices joining on the palate. We say: Merry Christmas everyone!     23. Brick Lingonberry & Sloe Sour Brick says: A heavily-fruited jammy modern sour ale, fermented with our house Lactobacillus and Kveik yeast and conditioned on Lingonberry juice and Sloe puree. We say: HB&B and Brick couldn't be much more closely linked, from being Jen and...

Fundamentals #73 — The Beak Brewery Parade IPA

If the Beak Brewery isn’t on your radar yet then it should be, as it’s one of the most exciting breweries that will be opening its doors in 2020. Finally, some good news! I hear you cry. For regular readers of this column, that name may sound familiar, and that’s because I’ve reviewed Beak before, way back in July 2018. Back then owner Daniel Tapper was contract brewing to get his tasty beer out into the world, and that’s true in this case as well, as this beer was made by his friends at Burning Sky (you might have heard...
