We're hiring: Experienced barista wanted for our Peckham shop

We're looking for a superstar part-time barista who also has a genuine and passionate interest in craft beer and natural wine.

Not only is Hop Burns & Black an award-winning bottle shop, in 2020 we added takeaway coffee to our offering, working with South London-based specialty coffee roastery Lomond Coffeequickly gaining a reputation for the best coffee in the area. After a short break over lockdown, we're diving back into it and need an experienced barista to join our team on a part-time basis.

The ideal candidate will be local to our store in Peckham Rye/East Dulwich and weekend availability is essential. You'll have loads of barista experience in specialty coffee and be ready to hit the ground running, confident of making great coffee every time in an often high-paced environment. You'll need to work well as part of a team, and also be capable of opening up and flying solo on occasion. You should feel comfortable chatting to customers about the range of products we sell and you’ll have an existing interest in craft beer and wine (experience working in this field is not needed as full training will be given). A friendly personality and great sense of humour is a given!

The coffee set-up is a 2 Group La Marzocco Linea Classic. You will have some experience with this machine or other La Marzocco machines, and confident in pulling consistently high quality espresso, steaming milk and pouring latte art (we use Estate Dairy milk and Minor Figures Oat M*lk). The coffee station is small (and maybe not ‘perfectly formed’), so you will also be able to work tidily in an organised way during busy peaks.

The role will initially be 20-25 hours a week, with possible room for more as lockdown eases and things develop - the start date is ASAP. We are a London Living Wage employer (the base starting rate for this position), offer a generous staff discount and loads of opportunities to gain more knowledge in craft beer and natural wine through formal and informal tastings, festivals (when they happen again) and other activities. You'll be joining a small, experienced, friendly and loyal team and a lot of fun is guaranteed.

If you fit the criteria above, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your CV and cover letter to us here by Thursday 18th March.
