Green Flash

Big Beery Advent Calendar - Beer 11: Green Flash Soul Style IPA, 6.5% (US)

Green Flash says: ”Our brewers rip-creating huge and complex double and triple IPAs at the pinnacle of craft beer enlightenment. Soul Style is their effortless and pure manifestation of the Single IPA. Citra, Simcoe, and Cascade hops are layered, allowing bright tropical waves of flavorful citrus and floral notes to break gently on the palate. Get stoked on a laid back single and ride a wave to soothe your soul.”

We say: Whoa, someone at Green Flash’s been pulling a little too hard on the peace pipe between those surf breaks… We bought this beer because it said “bright and tropical” on the label, and the label was orange. We like orange. Then we opened one and it was like opening a can of Orange Sunshine. This is such a tasty IPA - mangoes, orange blossom, so much tropical goodness you’ll be surprised it doesn’t give you a tan. We can’t think of a better way to kick off your wintry British Friday night.

New stuff in store: 19 November

It feels a little bit like the calm before the storm right now before full-on Christmas madness kicks in. The good stuff keeps on coming though... Read on.

  • We're very excited to announce the debut of two London sauce ranges. Sidekick Sauces are smooth, creamy delights that are packed with flavour and go well on pretty much everything. Slow Richie's come to you from the wonderful chaps who bring you the best street food south of the river, currently wowing the punters down at Brick Brewery. Their delicious sauces all incorporate Brick's beers and we know they're going to be a surefire hit. Standby for a motherlode of new sauce action coming next week, too.
  • Peckham meadery Gosnells has introduced their new spiced Winter Mead in glorious 750ml bottles - the perfect gift and a definite centrepiece for any autumn/winter table. Stay tuned for in-store tasting dates.
  • And speaking of beautiful 750ml bottles, Cidre L'Atypique is our new craft Normandy cider and it looks and tastes absolutely incredible. Who needs champagne when you have this?
  • On the beer side of things, our love for Buxton Brewery knows no bounds and we're greatly looking forward to trying out their new Double Axe Edge DIPA and Red Point IPA when they land later today. These guys never disappoint.
  • On the oop north brewery tip, we also welcome a third can from Vocation Brewery of Hebden Bridge. Pride & Joy American Pale Ale joins the exquisite Heart & Soul Session IPA and Life & Death IPA in the fridge.
  • Back down south, Sussex way, we have new Burning Sky! Cuvee in big bottles, Vatted Potter in 330ml.
  • Finally, Green Flash Hop Head Red makes its return - a big red DIPA from San Diego. This is definitely the season of the red ales right now and this caramelly, resinous hop monster is at the top of the field.

New stuff in store, 22 October

Your usual round-up of all the fresh goodness hitting our shores this week, kicking off with the freshest of the bunch...

  • Moor Envy Fresh Hop. We can't get enough of Moor's amazing can-conditioned beers and nor can you. Justin at Moor has refused to bottle this beer in the past as he doesn't believe wet-hopped beers stand up to the bottling and aging process. However he's now got his fancy-pants canning action, which has allowed him to capture the freshness and seal it in for you to enjoy. This is a fantastically drinkable beer - get your mitts on it and drink it super-fresh.
  • More Bristol action from the much-loved Arbor: we've got The Ego Has Landed APA in bottle and Rocketman IPA in both bottle and on flagon-fill.
  • Wylam Jakehead hits in bottle!
  • From Liverpool's Mad Hatter, Nightmare on Bold St is a beautiful milk stout recommended by one of our customers who told us to look out for it and grab it if we ever saw it. We did and we are very happy about it.
  • We've also finally got Sussex superstar Dark Star's legendary APA in cans.
  • Brewdog's Pumpkin King hits shelves just in time for Halloween.
  • Some welcome returns from the US - Stone Delicious IPA (gluten-reduced but you'd never know it) and Oskar Blues Pinner Session IPA, which is joined for the first time by Old Chub Nitro, a glorious Scotch Ale you need to add to your autumn arsenal.
  • News flash - we've got new Green Flash. The San Diego brewery's Soul Style IPA brings together Citra, Simcoe, and Cascade hops, allowing citrus and floral notes to break gently on your palate. As good as it sounds.
  • FInally, some Omnipollo re-ups - the phenomenally popular Mazarin Pale Ale is back and we've re-upped on the Bianca Mango Lassi Gose. Yee-hah.
